1. How does the Sony “Recycle Receive” promotion work?
A. The Sony “Recycle Receive” promotion allows you to purchase selected Sony headphones from Sony Store online or Sony stores in Australia (see below), and then trade in pre-loved headphones from selected major brands using the provided Ecoactiv trade in-satchel to receive a cashback. Your pre-loved headphones will then be recycled by Ecoactiv.
2. When does the “Recycle Receive” promotion start?
A. The promotion commences at 12.00 am on Wednesday 27 November 2024.
3. How long does the promotion run for?
A. The promotion is subject to change or cancellation without notice. Where this occurs, it will not impact eligible purchases made prior to the change or cancellation coming into effect, and customers who have made eligible purchases are still entitled to complete the process and obtain their trade in cash back (of either $30.00 or $50.00).
4. What Sony headphones do I need to purchase to be eligible to trade in my pre-loved headphones?
A. As at 27 November 2024, you need to purchase one of the following headphones from Sony Store Online or Sony stores at Castle Hill, Chatswood or Parramatta:
- Sony WH1000XM4 headphones – black and silver
- Sony WH1000XM5 headphones – black and silver
- Sony WF1000XM5 headphones – black, silver and pink
5. What pre-loved headphones are eligible to be traded in after I have purchased?
A. Refer to the list of eligible pre-loved headphone brands which you can trade in for your cashback after you have made your purchase.
6. How do I engage with the Recycle-Receive promotion?
A. Purchases from Sony Store online:
After placing an eligible order via Sony Store, you will be able to engage with the promotion via the unique link on the order confirmation page.
This unique link will direct you to a specific Ecoactiv webpage, where you can opt into the promotion by filling out a form. You will then receive the steps both on screen and via email from Ecoactiv to complete your trade-in and receive your cashback.
Customers who miss out on immediately opting in for the promotion at the time of order confirmation can contact our customer service team who can help facilitate opting into the promotion.
Purchases from Sony Store Castle Hill, Chatswood or Parramatta:
The store staff will help sign you up for the promotion in store.
When placing an eligible order via a Sony store and opting-in to the promotion, an email will be sent to your nominated email address which contains a unique link.
This unique link will direct you to a specific Ecoactiv webpage, where you can opt into the promotion by filling out a form. You will then receive the steps both on screen and via email from Ecoactiv to complete your trade-in and redeem your cashback.
7. What happens to the pre-loved headphones that I trade in?
A. Your traded-in headphones will undergo a process that involves separation, shredding, sorting into materials, and recycling where possible. Remaining materials will be disposed of responsibly by Ecoactiv.

8. When and how will I receive my cashback?
A. Once your satchel arrives at the recycling facility and is confirmed by Ecoactiv (and you have otherwise complied with the terms and conditions of the promotion), you will receive a cash payment via electronic bank transfer within 30 business days after the date your pre-loved product is received by Ecoactiv.
9. How much cashback will I receive?
A. You will receive either $30 or $50 cash back.
The amount you receive will depend on the eligible Sony headphones that you purchase.
Please refer to this list which sets out the applicable cash back amount for the Sony headphones that you can choose to purchase from to participate in this promotion.
10. Do I have to have a MySony account to engage with the promotion?
A. No, this promotion is available to all customers who purchase eligible Sony headphones.
11. I never received my Ecoactiv trade-in satchel - what do I do?
A. If you haven’t received your satchel within 7 business days after providing your mailing address during the opt-in process, please contact the Ecoactiv support team at www.sony.ecoactiv.com.au/contact
12. What do I do with the accessories and packaging from the pre-loved headphones?
A. Accessories, including charging cables for your pre-loved headphones, can be placed in the same satchel. Any accessories that could potentially pierce the satchel should be taped securely.
All packaging should be disposed of responsibly
13. Where do I drop off my Ecoactiv trade-in satchel?
A. You can drop your satchel off to any Australia Post location.
14. How long do I have to trade in my pre-loved headphones?
A. You must commence the trade-in (See ‘How do I engage with the promotion’) of your pre-loved headphones within 10 business days of making your eligible purchase with Sony.
15. How and when do I trade in my pre-loved headphones?
A. As part of opting into the trade-in promotion, facilitated by Ecoactiv, you will be asked to nominate a mailing address. A pre-paid satchel will be mailed to this address within 5-7 business days. The satchel with the eligible pre-loved headphones can be dropped off at any Australia Post location to have it sent to a recycling facility affiliated with Ecoactiv.
You must commence the trade-in of your pre-loved headphones within 10 business days of placing your eligible order with Sony, by opening an account with Ecoactiv and placing an order for your pre-loved headphones.
In addition, your pre-loved headphones must be received by Ecoactiv within 30 business days from the date you purchased your new headphones from Sony Store Online or one of Sony’s stores.

17. What do I do if I accidentally traded in an item?
A. Any items submitted via satchel are considered traded-in and forfeit.
18. Am I able to return my Sony headphones after trading in my pre-loved headphones?
A. No, any orders which receive a cash back payment via the Recycle Receive promotion are ineligible for the MySony ‘30 Day Love it or your money back’ benefit.
Similarly, headphones returned via the MySony ’30 Day Love it or your money back’ benefit are not eligible to receive a cash payment via the Recycle Receive promotion.
