Sony Trade-In Trade-Up Program Terms & Conditions

Summary

Customers who submit a trade-in of a used camera body or lens and accept the trade in offer in accordance with Ecoactiv’s Trade In. Trade Up terms and conditions, are eligible to receive a discount coupon (valid for use on camera, lens and camera accessories products on the Sony Online Store, subject to any exclusions) valid for 3 months from the time of issue.

Sony has partnered with The Activ Group Solutions Pty Ltd trading as Ecoactiv, who will organise the inspection, valuation, and logistics of the trade-in on Sony’s behalf.

The discount coupon(s) will be issued by Ecoactiv within 10 business days after the final offer is accepted by the customer and will be sent via email to the nominated email address.

Customers must comply with these terms and conditions and the Ecoactiv terms and conditions to be eligible for a coupon.  The Ecoactiv terms can be found at https://ecoactiv.com.au/trade-in-trade-up-terms-conditions/

These terms and conditions set out key dates (including commencement and termination of this Program), eligibility criteria to participate in the Program, and conditions applying to use of the coupons.   The Ecoactiv terms and conditions set out the terms and conditions relating to the process of receiving an estimate for your trade in, sending in your product for assessment, receiving a final offer, and how to accept a final offer and receive a coupon (or how to have your product returned).

Disclosure notice in accordance with section 47A of the Fair Trading Act 1987 (NSW)

These promotional terms are important, and you should read them fully. However, there are some specific terms we wanted to make you aware of. These are set out below:

  • Program is subject to change or cancellation without prior notice (see clause 11): Where this occurs, it will not impact trade-in requests made prior to the change or cancellation coming into effect, and customers who have made these requests are still entitled to complete the trade-in process in accordance with these terms.
  • Sony’s limitation of liability (see clause 15): To the extent permitted by applicable law and subject always to the Non‑Excludable Guarantees, Sony will not be liable to you in any way for any cause in connection with this Program and our liability to you will be limited as set out in sections 14 and 15 of these terms and conditions.

Promoter

  1. The Promoter is Sony Australia Limited (ABN 59 001 215 354) of Level 7, 73 Miller Street, North Sydney NSW 2060 (Sony, Promoter, we, us or our).  Sony has partnered with Ecoactiv to help administer the Program.

Program

  1. Instructions on how You can participate in the Sony Trade-In Trade-Up Program (“Program”) and be eligible to receive a discount coupon form part of these terms and conditions (“Terms”). Your participation in the Program is deemed acceptance of these Terms.
  2. Eligible Participants who comply with these Terms and who, in accordance with the Ecoactiv Terms:
    1. submit a trade-in request on or after the Commencement Date;
    2. accept the instant estimate and send their camera body or lens to Ecoactiv for inspection; and
    3. accept the final offer following inspection;

    will be eligible to receive one or more discount coupon codes from Ecoactiv subject to these Terms (and in particular, the terms under the section Coupon Terms).

  3. The Program commences on the Commencement Date.
  4. For the purposes of these Terms:
    1. “Business Day” means any day that is not a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday in Victoria.
    2. “Commencement Date” means 4 December 2025.
    3. “Coupon(s)” means the discount coupon code(s) issued by Ecoactiv under this Program;
    4. “Coupon Exclusions” means those Sony products at Sony Online Store which Coupon(s) cannot be used for as listed at the Website and updated from time to time in accordance with clause 10(b);
    5. “Coupon Validity Period” means 3 months from the date of issue of the coupon(s);
    6. “Ecoactiv” means The Activ Group Solutions Pty Ltd and its related bodies corporate and subsidiaries from time to time;
    7. “Ecoactiv Terms” means the Ecoactiv terms and conditions located at http://ecoactiv.com.au/trade-in-trade-up-terms-conditions/;
    8. “Ecoactiv Website” means Ecoactiv’s website for conducting the Program located at http://sonytradein.ecoactiv.com/au/cameras/;
    9. “Eligible Participant” has the meaning given to this term in clause 6.
    10. “Eligible Trade In Product” means the products that are eligible to participate in the Program as set out at the Ecoactiv Website.
    11. “Program” means the Sony Trade In. Trade Up program as described in these Terms and the Ecoactiv Terms;
    12. “Sony Online Store” means Sony’s online store located at http://store.sony.com.au;
    13. “Terms” means these terms and conditions; and
    14. “You or Your” is a reference to the person who participates in the Program as an Eligible Participant; and
    15. “Website” means http://store.sony.com.au/camera-tradein.html;
    16. “$” is a reference to Australian Dollars (AUD); and
    17. the singular includes the plural and vice versa.

Eligibility to be an Eligible Participant

  1. To be eligible to participate in the Program, You must, on or after the Commencement Date:
    1. be an Australian resident with an Australian residential address;
    2. be aged 18 years and older. If You are under 18 years old, You must have parental/guardian approval to participate in this Program and Your parent/guardian must read and consent to these Terms; and
    3. submit a trade-in request for an Eligible Trade In Product, and accept the trade-in estimate in accordance with the Ecoactiv Terms.
  2. You can only participate in the Program in your own name (or nickname if chosen). We reserve the right, at any time, to verify the validity of Your eligibility to participate in the Program (including identity, age and place of residence) and reserve the right, acting reasonably in our sole discretion, to revoke Your eligibility if we have reason to believe you have provided false or fraudulent information.
  3. If there is a dispute as to the identity of an Eligible Participant, Sony reserves the right, in its sole discretion (acting reasonably), to determine the identity of the Eligible Participant.
  4. Failure by Sony to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights. Sony reserves its legal rights to recover damages or other compensation from such an offender.

Coupon Terms

  1. The following terms apply to Coupon(s) issued to Eligible Participants who comply with these Terms and the Ecoactiv Terms:
  1. Coupons are valid for 3 months from the date of issue (“Coupon Validity Period”);
  2. Coupons are redeemable on all Sony cameras, lenses, and accessories, subject to any Coupon Exclusions. The Coupon Exclusions may be updated by Sony from time to time by notice on the Website, but any changes will not impact any trade-ins initiated under the Ecoactiv terms before the Coupon Exclusion was added;
  3. Coupons are non-refundable once used. If an order is placed and then cancelled, the Coupon value will not be reinstated;
  4. Coupons can be applied to pre-order and backorder eligible Sony products as specified in (b);
  5. Coupons are redeemable exclusively online through the Sony Online Store;
  6. each Coupon can only be used once and must be applied in a single transaction that is equal to or over the value of the Coupon amount; and
  7. if you have more than one valid Coupon, you can use them together in the same transaction.

Termination, Modification and Suspension of the Program

  1. Sony reserves the right to change or cancel this Program at its discretion without prior notice. Changes to or cancelling this Program will not affect any trade‑in requests already initiated and / or accepted by you in accordance with the Ecoactiv Terms before the change or cancellation under these Terms.
  2. In the event of:
    1. any factors outside Sony’s control which prevent this Program from running as planned;
    2. Program is interfered with in any way outside of Sony’s control; or
    3. the Program is not capable of being conducted as reasonably anticipated due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of Sony,

then Sony reserves the right to immediately cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Program. For the purposes of this clause such matters outside Sony’s control include but are not limited to pandemic, terrorism, state of emergency, computer virus or hacking, unauthorized intervention or fraud, or any other technical difficulties or equipment malfunction which adversely affects the administration, security, fairness or integrity of this Program.

General

  1. Any costs associated with accessing any of the required websites set out in these Terms remain the responsibility of each Eligible Participant and are dependent on the internet service provider used.
  2. Nothing in these Terms limits, excludes or modifies or purports to limit, exclude or modify the statutory consumer guarantees set out in Schedule 2 – Australian Consumer Law of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth) (“CCA”), as well as any other implied warranties under the Australian Securities and Investments Act 2001 (Cth) or similar consumer protection laws (“Non-Excludable Guarantees”). If the CCA or any other legislation implies a condition, warranty or term into the Terms, Sony’s liability for breach of such condition, warranty, or other term or guarantee is limited to the extent permitted by law.
  3. Except for any liability that cannot by law be excluded, including the Non‑Excludable Guarantees, Sony (including its respective officers, employees and agents) is not responsible for and excludes all liability (including negligence), for any personal injury; or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity); whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of the Program, including, but not limited to, where arising out of: (a) any technical difficulties; (b) any theft, unauthorized access or third-party interference; (c) any tax liability incurred by a participant; or (d) use or non-use of any Coupon.
  4. Except in the case of the process for changes to the Coupon Exclusions (clause 10(b)), Sony may vary these Terms from time to time in its discretion. Where this involves a material change and/or it will have a significant impact upon You, Sony will use its reasonable endeavours to provide You with prior reasonable notice of these changes at the Website.  In some limited cases, Sony may not be able to provide such notice where Sony needs to amend the Terms immediately.   For example, where (a) Sony is required by law to do so; (b) due to unexpected or operational issues beyond Sony’s reasonable control or (c) where it is reasonably necessary to protect Sony’s infrastructure, systems, data, security or assets and/or your personal information (for example where the Website and/or the Program is subject to a cyber incident or other unauthorised access).
  5. These Terms are governed by and will be construed in accordance with the laws of New South Wales, Australia. You submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of NSW and the Commonwealth with respect to any action or other legal process with respect to any matter in connection with these Terms.
