Great phone if you can get it for a good price
The X Performance has been superseded a little by the XZ (and soon XZs) but it's still around 33% cheaper with similar specs, while being only 20% pricier than the X after recent price cuts, so it was a good value buy for me. It's much faster than the X (especially graphics) as well as being officially rated as water resistant.
As someone who only buys a new phone every 3 years or so, waiting for the right price/performance/new features balance, I love the phone. I actually prefer the soft corners over the boxy XZ. I like the stereo speakers of higher end Xperia phones compared to the mono speaker of Galaxy phones, and paired with their noise cancelling headphones it's a great media phone.
4K video recording has been disabled for unknown reasons but you can use OpenCamera to record in 4K (at higher bitrates too if you desire). Pretty happy with the camera quality although if you look at photos 1:1 there seems to be a lot of artificial processing going on. As a photographer though it's not really fair to compare the up close clarity of these to my SLR but calling this 23 megapixels is a stretch. If it was a genuine 23 megapixels then the "clear zoom" function would actually work by cropping the sensor rather than via interpolation. The 13 MP selfie camera is great, even though the wide angle lens took some adjusting to.
There's a little bit of bloatware (Amazon shopping and AVG) but you can disable these if desired.
Battery life is meant to be so-so, but it's not a problem for me as a light user, especially if the Qnovo technology means it will lose capacity more slowly. I will say that the 4G Vodafone signal I get is weak so I am setting it to use 3G instead, but I have no idea whether this is the phone or the network because I have nothing to compare it to, my last device being a 3G phone.
Overall following price cuts / vendor discount this is a great high end 2016 smartphone.

I have now had this phone for a year now and I cannot wait to get rid of it.
Never have I had a phone that has been so buggy, crashes regularly, over heats, slows down and have had to reset so many times to just get the thing working.
I have had every version of Sony phones, Z1, Z2, Z3 and now X performance. But this will be the last time. I got this phone thru contract and I'm going to be breaking this contract such is the hatred I have for this phone - a move that will cost me over a grand but is almost worth it in my opinion.
I've had the phone already replaced due to these issues and they are still ongoing, so this is obviously systemic.
It's a pity, because the camera is phenomenal, but when the phone overheats (which is more than regular) it can ruin your holiday when you can't take photos. Just as an example, I went to see the Marvel Gallery exhibit and could only get about 10 photos till the phone overheated, same thing as when I was in Thailand and at ComiCon. What a piece of junk.
Every time the phone crashes I submit feedback about fixing the bugs, but this has obviously not occurred, so I'm out.
If you look at the Sony Website for this, it says this is their "Masterpiece", this is a bad indictment on the quality of this mobile. It's got an amazing processor, but if you put a Ferrari engine in a Corona, imagine all the issues you might have.
It's a piece of junk
